Size Measuring Guide
A perfect fit for your ultra-marathon running shoes is important for comfort and performance. Follow these tips to measure your foot size at home:
General Tips:
- Measure your feet at the end of the day as they're at their largest due to swelling.
- In between sizes? One foot is bigger than the other? Take the larger size.
- It's best to measure every year. Your size could change over time.
What You'll Need:
- A piece of paper larger than your foot,
- A pen or pencil,
- A ruler or measuring tape,
- Socks of the thickness you'll wear with the shoes.
Steps:
- Stand on the paper in the socks you'll wear with the shoes.
- Use the pen or pencil to mark the end of your longest toe and the back of your heel. It's important to measure both feet as their size can vary.
- Match your measurements to our size chart to find the best fit. If you're between sizes, we suggest choosing the larger size for better comfort.

In the relentless pursuit of distance, ultrarunners often encounter swollen feet. With the R1, your toes can relax and enjoy the ride thanks to our wide toe box and broad platform, and the TUNEDFIT™ Dual Lacing System offers customizable fit for the forefoot and midfoot separately.
To create the smoothest possible ride, Mount to Coast looked to the automotive industry to create ZeroSag™, our groundbreaking midsole insert co-developed with BASF. Durable, comfortable and offering impeccable energy return at any temperature, ZeroSag™ guarantees extraordinary cushioning on the longest runs.
LightCELL™, our proprietary midsole base material, starts as a unique hybrid compound before being charged with pure nitrogen to create a supercritical foam. The result is a material that is 50 percent lighter than EVA, while offering 45 percent more energy return.
R1p up the Record Books
In the spring of 2024, before the shoe’s official launch, British ultrarunner Justin Montague took one pair of R1s to the northernmost point of Scotland to run the JOGLE, a multistage ultra to the most southerly tip of England. Over 17 daily stages he ran 854 miles (1,374 km) setting a time that was almost 40 hours faster than the previous record, and he broke each day’s individual stage record along the way.
That result was just a warm up. Since then, the R1 has guided athletes to countless personal, national and world bests, culminating in two of ultrarunning’s most prestigious records. First in spring 2025, US runner Meg Eckert covered 603 miles to shatter the women’s six-day world record. Then, less than a month later, Belgian endurance athlete Matthieu Bonne broke the 29-year-old 48-hour world record with 301 miles. Records are there to be broken and the R1 is here to R1p them up.

I really wanted to love this shoe because almost everything about it feels superb. The foam is fantastic — cushioned without feeling overly soft — and the toe box is pretty much perfect for me. The overall fit and ride feel excellent.
Unfortunately, there’s one major issue. The side part presses aggressively into the bottom/side of my foot while running. After some time it becomes genuinely painful, to the point where it overshadows everything else I like about the shoe.
It’s a real shame because the fundamentals are so good. If Mount to Coast could redesign or soften that particular area in a future version, this could easily become one of my favourite running shoes.
Thank you for explaining this so clearly and for showing us exactly where the pressure occurs. We’re glad that the cushioning, toe box, and overall ride worked so well for you, which makes it especially disappointing that this area caused enough pain to overshadow the rest of the experience.
This isn’t something we’d want you to simply run through. Please contact us at [email protected] with your order details so our team can look into it and see how we can help. We’ll also share your comments and the photo with our product team for closer review.
nd them truly fantastic, soft, but not too soft, with a nice energy return. The toe box is generous, which I love. The double lacing system is fantastic.
I'm preparing a Backyard Ultra, so the R1s are perfect. I love them.
Love the shoes, similar feeling as the P1, but definitely more bouncy and stronger response.
Sabates de córrer llargues distàncies sobre un núvol. Sensació especial i increïblement còmodes.
Took a few runs to soften up and for running in the flat at 4:30/km or slower they work well with a really nice cushioned yet supportive springy heel. They are however limited on steep climbs which unfortunately for me are a common feature of where I train. The front of the midsole seems to have very little of the amazing energy return at the heel and as soon as you're running up a steep enough hill where there is less heel engagement they feel dead and slap the ground as they are so flat and not enough rocker in their design. Outsole is really grippy and the midsoles feel durable so hoping to get 1000km out of them. For comparison I can run much more quickly in hoka rockets and slightly quicker in hoka Clifton which are a heavier shoe. Might have try with the c1 as I like the overall build quality and potential durability
fantastisch
These shoes are incredible. Shipping to Canada took around a week and half. I ran 4-5 short to medium distance runs, and then did my half-marathon and PR my 5k, 10k, and half Marathon. Was raining during the half, they got destroyed, threw them in the wash and they came out basically brand new. Incredible! I will be an ambassador for life if you send me a few pairs ;)
Stability and comfort are the first impressions that I have after wearing the shoes after 100 km.
Great work!
Muy roo
Awesome… more than 15k in the First run, i want to take them Never Off 💪
I was looking for a pair of long-distance running shoes—lightweight, responsive, and with a mid-cut upper for long distances—and I finally found them.
I felt comfortable right away and had no foot problems.
I feel like the responsiveness increases with distance. They're truly excellent. I don't like the double lacing system, but it's not a big deal.
The colors of the shoes could perhaps be improved:
Dark colors are better so dust and mud are less visible.
Another positive aspect is the delivery; I was told they would arrive in about 7-8 days, but they arrived in 4 business days.
Thanks for this pleasant discovery!
Great shoe!!!
Found them a little stiff on the first 15k and then they soften up extremely well! As a slightly heavier runner I find them stable with the dual laces! (96kg) perfect for long runs and daily life with busy kids!
I use this shoe to roam around, not just for running, and I consider it quite the perfection, with a responsive (not too fluffy) foam, which is good thing because I get more control on the terrain. Good job.
At the GOMU 6-Day World Championship in Balatonfüred, Hungary in 2024, I was the winner in the M75 (75-79) category. I received Mount to Coast R1 running shoes from the manufacturer as a prize.
It turned out that these are the best running shoes I have ever run in.
I now only compete in Mount to Coast R1 running shoes.
In 2025, I broke the 30-year-old world record for a 6-day run in my age group with them.
In 2026, I plan to break 7 world records (48 hours, 72 hours, 6 days, 10 days, the 30-year-old record for 1000 km). In all competitions: GOMU World Championships, 48 hours, 6-day run, 10-day run… and for the rest of my career I will run in Mount to Coast R1 running shoes. I can only change them… with a new model of Mount to Coast running shoes!
Ottimi prosotto si sente subbito quando si indossa la prima volta che è destinato per le ulra distanze top
I've run thousands of kilometres in the R1s.
Whether I'm cruising steady miles, stacking big weekly volume, doing speed work, or racing, they just soak up the miles.
The wide toe box and dual-zone lacing system are the true selling points for me.
They provide ample forefoot room while simultaneously preventing my foot from sliding around. Being able to fine-tune the fit has been especially critical during long and multi-day events, where foot swelling is inevitable.
They are the only shoe I use. A true multi-tool.
I really Love the shoe because of it's lacing system and the perfect Match between cushioning and bounce
Having covered around 50 miles in these now. They have well exceeded expectations. I was quite unsure at first an took the plunge. Feel locked in and supportive, will try the T1 next.
I love these shoes.
Excelente Shoes
Can I use it for daily walk?
