Mount to Coast athlete Matthieu Bonne claimed the men’s 48-hour world record at the GOMU World Championships this past Sunday June 1. Bonne, a Belgian endurance athlete, ran 301.427 miles (485.099 kilometers) over two days and two nights, breaking Greek runner Yiannis Kouros’ 29-year-old record.
Bonne ran at an average pace of 9:33 per mile (5:56 per kilometer). He bested Kouros’ record by 11.55 kilometers. Throughout the race, he wore a single pair of Mount to Coast’s R1 shoes.
“Crossing the finish line after 48 hours and setting a new world record was the culmination of relentless focus, grit, and trust in every step I took,” said Bonne. “The Mount to Coast R1s were more than just shoes—they were a reliable partner through every mile, adapting to the swelling and fatigue without missing a beat. They carried me through the highs and lows, and I wouldn’t have chosen anything else for this journey.”

In addition to breaking the previous record, he also became the first runner to surpass the 300-mile mark within 48 hours.
Including this new achievement, Bonne now owns four world records across three different endurance sports including the seven-day cycling world record, pedaling 3,619.72 kilometers (2,249.19 miles); the world record for the longest nonstop ocean swim, recording 131 kilometers (81.3 miles) in 60 hours, 55 minutes, and 43 seconds; and the 6-day World Championships, running 650.1 miles (1,046.3 kilometers).
Bonne’s 48-hour world record is currently pending International Association of Ultrarunners ratification.
