So pleased with this mount to cost shoe. As a first timer buyer of this brand I am now a convert. Great fit and love the variable lacing. Very comfortable over multi terrain high mileage training. I’m sticking with it!
I've just discovered this product and am pleasantly surprised!
Lightweight, very comfortable, flexible shoes, perfectly suited to very long road rides.
As a fan of ultra road races, I've found the ideal shoe!
Thank you!
After Nikes, Brooks, Hoka, Asics, New Balance, Altras...as a woman, especially postpartum, I have had nonstop foot issues but lofty mileage goals. As SOON as I put these on my feet for a 2-mile run, I will never look back at another brand. Hook, line, sinker, these are the BEST shoes I have ever owned.
After much consideration, I took the leap and bought my first mount to coast R1 and I'm in LOVE!! As a barefoot runner (running with barefoot shoes) I wanted something that can give me the same space and connection to the earth but with more support and R1 is just that!! It delivered from the first try. I didn't know such level of comfort can even exist and the impact of that on how I run, how much more ease I feel it's incredible. This shoe is PERFECT!!
Thank you mount to coast, I'm your client for life!

I’m not a marathon runner but recreational running is what I do. I will say first shoes that I have never been sore, feet tingling or shin splints when I have down time between running. Literally changed my life and make running enjoyable. No regrets!
I pulled these babies out of the box and thought I was going for a 3 mile test run. They felt so good, I decided to go for 10 miles. I took them up a hillside, on pavement and gravel and they felt amazing. The only part of me that didn’t hurt the next day was my feet. I will be a repeat customer.
I genuinely do not write reviews about something 1st day of owning, however this pair of shoes, are something to write about. A lot of company’s seem to be all hype due to social media, so it is difficult at times to navigate the turmoil of BS you see online. I’m confident in saying that given the price point and the hype, these shoes are everything I hoped they would be. Comfortable, functional, stylish, and true to size. Most importantly they’re like walking or running on a cloud. Will update again in 6 months, I’ll make good use of them given I work in a hospital, and my extra curricular fitness lifestyle of hybrid training.
Rarely would I try sneakers after just reading about them online. For the comfort, performance, and price point, the R1s can’t be beat. Great to see a newcomer to the market with this strong of an entry!
I have no complaints about this shoe. I have never been happy with a running shoe, but then I tired these. I thought they were a gimmick, but they live up to their reputation.
Show is very comfortable while on long runs and just as good on short quick ones as well. Very happy I went with these
The Mount to Coast R1 has all the features needed to provide the most optimal running experience. I was looking for a good running shoe for some time, and stumbled upon the R1 through an advertisement on social media. After some research, I made the purchase, and it was worth every dollar. The shoes provide great stability while on distance runs and absorbs shock fantastically. A great shoe for any runner in my honest opinion. Highly recommend.
I had heard about Mount to Coast through a podcast and social media ads. My 100 mile mountain race was cancelled due to hurricane damage. I found a 100 mile race on flatish terrain (bike path, crushed limestone, and sidewalk). I received these shoes the Monday before my race. I was able to put 12 miles on them before race day, and gave them the ultimate test. They held up extremely well. I had no foot issues while racing. I was still able to run at mile 85 until we hit a torrential thunderstorm and was forced to walk most of the last 15 miles. However I was able to experience their endurance even in heavy rain, puddles, and slick paths. I will be testing this pair in more conditions soon. These saved my race! Don’t hesitate to test them out, you won’t be disappointed!
When these arrived I wore them around for a day and took them for a 20 mile long run the next morning. Absolutely blown away by this shoe.. not a single blister paired with injinji toe socks. Plenty of room in the toe box as a runner that primarily wears Altras. I am a huge believer in the shoe at first trial, and hope the longevity lives up to the expectation as an “ultra” shoe.
I have logged over 50 miles in the R1 in the white colorway to date. So far the shoes have handled everything I can throw at them. I have done tempo/interval/recovery runs in them from 6:00 min-11:00 min pace, and they have worked to perfection. I am training for the CHS 100 in December, and these will be my race shoe to cover the distance. The tuned fit lacing system has worked great on my runs, with helping me get a dialed in fit. My normal shoe size is 11, but for ultra's I size up to an 11.5 and they fit perfectly. The midsole is very consistent in that it is balanced between softness and responsiveness. With the grueling impact of a road ultra, these shoes will work great to handle the hard surface for hours on end. Also the reflective panels on the shoe will help with safety as an distance over a 100 miles will have night time segments of running.
My ultra road shoe of choice before the MTC R1's was the Craft Pro Endurance 1's, but I could never get a dialed in fit like I do with the R1's. The R1's cover all of the needs of an ultra road distance shoe, and from here on out the MTC R1 is my shoe of choice for any distance over 50 miles!
R1 Speed model + trail version would be 🔥
These shoes are awesome. No joke. I bought the S1s in a 10.5 and they were a bit small. I ran for awhile in them and it just wasn’t right. No shoes, when too small, are good. Switched the the R1 and went to an 11. Holy smokes, these are the best shoes I’ve ever run in. I switched from the popular Swiss brand because they always seemed to squeak and that gets really annoying to me. Saw these as low risk and made to hammer out miles. I’m pumped to run my first marathon in them next month.
I’m a normal guy, not overly athletic, but I’m determined. I do triathlon and love cycling. My running has always been a “survive” situation. I run around 9:00-10:00 miles - usually a 5k for a workout. 10ks are as far as I run while pushing pace. Half marathons in half Ironmans or maybe twice a year. Doing my first marathon next month.
Extremely comfortable without bulk. Lots of room for wide feet and very adjustable.
Right out of the box these felt amazing. Good cushion, great fit. I like the ability to adjust the lower part of the shoe while remaining the tightness at the top. So far this was a great purchase
Couldn't be happier with my purchase! Trying a 'new' brand is always a toss up but these have exceeded all expectations. Sizing was perfect but even if it wasn't the separate lacing for midfoot and the bridge would reduce any individual concerns, I could've gone a half-size bigger and still wouldn't have any issues. I'm a huge fan of the wide toe box that Altra has and this is definitely comparable. The energy return on each strike has improved my pace by over a minute while still maintaining the same RPE and HR. Feels like I bought a shoe with a carbon plate without the price tag. If you're on the fence like I was, don't be.
Finally gave into the hype here and purchased a pair of R1's for some longer-mileage training and I'm sold on these after just 2 runs and ready to try a pair of the S1's. Very comfortable fit thanks to the wide toe box and dual-lacing system and the material of the midsole provides a very cushioned/responsive ride as well. Big fan so far and looking forward to see how far I can take these.
I’ve had my R1s for about a week now and noticed the weight difference right away! The ability to adjust toe tightness versus your upper foot is a game changer. I love my pair of R1s
After struggling with the shoe brand I have been using changing the foot shape my feet appreciated for years, I tried the R1’s. They arrived a few days before a half marathon and I didn’t have the chance to get a run in before race day. Fresh out of the box to the starting line. These shoes felt great the whole way, no weird pinch points or sloppiness. The dual laces are an excellent feature, I stopped to adjust 1 time and continued on. My feet felt great and when I crossed the finish line i wanted to keep going. I’m sold. Can’t wait for my recovery run!
Very comfortable shoe and love the adjustments you can make with the duel system!
- I love that it also comes with a shoe bag, a very nice touch of quality and class. Only wish is that it also came with a pair of laces if you didn't want the lower toggles though this duel system is extremely comfortable once you dial in your preferences.
- The shoe is very comfortable, lightweight, fashionable and they do not need a warmup period.
- I did experience a little bit of squeaking out of the box like the description says but once I went outside for a run and put about 20mi on them they no longer squeaked. This squeaking is why it only has 4 stars.
- Have not tested them in the rain but the couple of boardwalk sections and asphalt I had on my runs have been no issues for the grip.
- Overall i have been pleasantly surprised with the R1 and cant wait to use it more throughout my marathon build. Seems like it will do well for my long easy runs and shorter daily efforts midweek.
I am 5’9 225 pounds. Recovering from bostrom repair with my ankle. These have been the only shoe that is comfortable enough for me. I absolutely love them.
I am 6’4” 230lbs and run approx 200miles a month. These shoes felt amazing from the start. Plenty of cushion, and very responsive. The dual lacing system felt weird for about 1 minute on the first run and then I didn’t notice. I literally feel like I could run forever in these. Without question these shoes would be great during a 100 mile ultra!!! Hoka had better watch out, I don’t think I’m ever going back.
Does everything the way you expect
I work in a local mom & pop running store and have at least 7-9 pairs of shoes in my running & walking rotation, Asics, Saucony, Brooks, New Balance & Hoka! I wore my R1’s for a 2 mile walk with my dogs & they felt great. I went on a 2 mile run/walk this morning & am absolutely in love with these shoes! I’ve never worn anything like them before. They are responsive, comfortable & interval transitions were seamless! I’m definitely getting the S1’s and am planning to use Mount to Coast shoes for my Camino de Frances 500 mile pilgrimage in 2025!!! I usually wear a women’s 10 in all my running shoes, but measured a 9. I went with 9.5 & it’s PEFFECT!!! I really hope your product will be in specialty stores soon & I will be begging our owner to carry them!
I have many different shoes from brooks to Nikes, to new balance and hoka. These are my FAVORITE! They hug nicely around my ankles but leave a nice amount of room at my toes so that they are not scrunched up! An awesome arch support as well. My feet don’t get hot when running, and they are nice and light. For the price, they are a steal! Would recommend, and already have!
